  • How does the Purbanchal University BE entrance exam work?One examination, run centrally by the Faculty of Engineering, decides admission to every one of its constituent and affiliated engineering colleges. You apply online at entrance.puexam.edu.np, choosing the college and programme you want as you apply, and the faculty tells you which centre to sit at. In the 2083 cycle the paper ran on Saturday 15 August 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at six centres.Updated

How does admission to a Purbanchal University engineering degree work?

Purbanchal University runs one entrance examination for its entire engineering faculty, which makes it the most centralised of the three non-Tribhuvan systems in this library. The regulator registers twenty engineering colleges under it, more than any university except Tribhuvan, across seven districts, and twelve of the twenty sit inside the Kathmandu Valley despite the university being headquartered at Gothgaun in Morang. One online form at entrance.puexam.edu.np, costing Rs 2,000 or Rs 3,000 after the normal deadline, covers the entrance and the scholarship together. The paper is 100 marks of objective questions in two hours, split Mathematics 40, Physics 30, Chemistry 20 and English 10, and the faculty publishes the full syllabus for it. It also publishes a seat count per programme per college, totalling 2,498 seats, of which Civil Engineering is 1,356. Ten per cent of every section is reserved for scholarships, five per cent on merit and five per cent for named groups.

Which answer you need

This system asks less of an applicant than either of the others in this library, and publishes more. There is one paper to sit rather than one per college, and the university puts its syllabus, its seat table and its whole scholarship procedure in writing, which no other non-Tribhuvan system here does. What it does not publish is a fee, anywhere, and its most detailed document is two years old. The seven answers below cover the entrance, the paper, the colleges, the seats, the scholarship, what happens when seats do not fill, and the name collision that sends applicants to the wrong university.

Two things about this system will save you a wasted week. Purbanchal University and Pokhara University both abbreviate themselves PU in their own official documents, they share no college, and a brochure or a search result saying “PU affiliated” has not told you which one it means. And the university’s own documents disagree with each other more often than in any other system here: the regulator lists twenty colleges where the faculty lists eighteen, four colleges have more registered programmes than the faculty names, and one college appears under two different names on two official lists. Where they conflict, these pages carry the regulator’s value and say what the university says.
